A Message from Amy Aquino:

“Fellow SAG Members,

If you live and work in SAG’s Regional Branches, you have many great reasons to vote for Ken Howard as President and me, Amy Aquino, as Secretary-Treasurer in this election. But one of the clearest reasons comes from Anne-Marie Johnson herself:

“I guess my fellow board members from Membership First saw the future better than I did, and made it very clear that they didn’t - nor will they - trust Paul Christie and the New York Board, and NEVER TRUST THE REGIONAL BRANCH MEMBERS, and they tried to tell [me and Alan Rosenberg] that. They warned us that this will come to no good. Obviously, today, it is proven that my fellow board members who were part of Membership First were right.”

– ANNE-MARIE JOHNSON, Back Stage Blog Stage January 26, 2009

There has never been a SAG election where the stakes were so high AND the choice was so clear for SAG’s Regional Branch members. And it’s no surprise that Membership First presidential candidate Anne-Marie Johnson is doing all she can to hide her Membership First roots. Despite being an outspoken leader of Membership First for years, she DOESN’T EVEN MENTION THEIR NAME in her campaign video or her email messages to Regional Branch members.   Don’t be fooled.   Since taking control of SAG in 2005, Membership First and their candidates Anne-Marie Johnson and Connie Stevens have consistently demonstrated that their plans for SAG’s future are bad news for the Regional Branches:

 - They have time and again pushed through their agenda over the objections of virtually every regional representative…

- They have consistently described closing branch offices as an attractive and necessary way of cutting expenses…

- During the battle over control of the TV/Theatrical contract negotiations and its ratification, Johnson’s group repeatedly asserted their belief that Regional Branch members don’t work that contract enough to have a voice in it…

- While many Regional Branches have long had joint SAG/AFTRA offices and understand the value of united representation, Membership First adamantly opposes merger with AFTRA, with Anne-Marie Johnson declaring that “for those who believe merger is the answer, I’m certainly not their candidate.”

Ken Howard and I are proud of our involvement with UNITE FOR STRENGTH. We have a history of respect and partnership with the Regional Branches, and a vision of a powerful NATIONAL union.   Unite for Strength knows that a divided union serves NONE of its members. With production spread across the country, SAG’s greatest power will come from an unbreakable partnership, between all SAG’s branches and between the two unions that represent performers.

Please vote for:   -     KEN HOWARD for SAG President -     AMY AQUINO for SAG Secretary-Treasurer   Together with our partners throughout the country, We will work to lead the Screen Actors Guild and ALL its members to a better, stronger future.
